A Texas defendant convicted Thursday by a jury of the shooting deaths in 2015 of eight people, including six children, will serve life in prison without parole, according to reports.

At least one of the children was shot 14 times, the child’s mother told FOX 26 in Houston.

The dead included the defendant’s ex-girlfriend David Conley, Valerie Jackson, and her husband Dewayne Jackson, according to the report.

Children killed included Conley’s own 13-year-old son. The man who was killed was the father of five other children. According to authorities, all children have long been abused by Conley and Dewayne Jackson.

All of Conley’s victims, including the two adults killed, had been shot in the head, the station reported.

“It’s the devil,” Vernessa Conley, the convicted killer’s ex-wife, told FOX 26.

Conley, 54, was spared the death penalty because Texas state and defense experts declared him to have an intellectual disability, FOX 26 reported. The United States Supreme Court ruled those defendants cannot be executed, the report said.

“How could anyone look into the eyes of children handcuffed to their beds and shoot them one by one?” Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg asked in a statement. “We are eternally indebted to the jurors who have listened to the atrocious evidence, deliberately considered and delivered justice.”

In 2013, all of the children were temporarily removed from the home by child protection services due to alleged abuse, but Judge Glenn Devlin ordered them back home a month later, Valerie Jackson and David Conley having ordered to attend domestic violence counseling. and random drug testing, FOX 26 reported.

The CPS then made periodic home visits until the case was closed in May 2014, the station reported.

Then, on August 8, 2015, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office received several 911 calls requesting a welfare check at a home in the Northwest County, according to FOX 26. The Sheriff’s Office subsequently received calls. critics for not entering the house until their fourth visit, when they finally spotted the body of a child looking out a window, the Associated Press reported.

The sheriff’s office claimed deputies did not have enough information to enter the house on previous visits.

After spotting the dead child on the fourth visit, four MPs entered the house and were immediately shot, prompting them to leave, according to FOX 26. Soon a standoff began for several hours, with Conley finally surrendering. to authorities without incident, the report mentioned.

Conley faced three counts of capital murder, including the murder of a child under the age of 10, the murder of several people and the murder in addition to another felony, which was characterized as burglary, reported FOX 26.

The motive likely stemmed from Conley and Valerie Jackson’s previous relationship, authorities told FOX 26.
