JACKSON TOWNSHIP – U.S. Representative Tim Ryan D-Howland said he was impressed with his driving on Wednesday in Lordstown Motors Corp. Endurance, the electric flagship of the new truck to be produced in Lordstown.
He seemed to be more impressed with the potential new owners of the plant, the sprawling former General Motors assembly plant.
Taiwanese tech company Foxconn and Lordstown Motors are negotiating a deal where Lordstown Motors would sell the plant for $ 230 million and Foxconn would become the Endurance subcontractor.
At United Auto Workers Local 1112 on Wednesday, Ryan said Foxconn aims to make Lordstown its electric vehicle hub for its North American operations.
In addition to Endurance, Ryan said he has high hopes Foxconn can assemble the Personal Electric Automotive Revolution (PEAR) at the 6.2 million square foot facility in Lordstown. Foxconn has finalized an agreement with the Californian company Fisker to assemble the vehicle.
“I know we have had high hopes over the past 40 years. I grew up here and know all the promises (made by other potential investors in the manufacturing sector) ”, he said. But, said Ryan, he believes Foxconn’s intention to bring “a lot of jobs” to the Mahoning Valley.
Previously, members of Congress had visited the plant and met Lordstown Motors CEO Dan Ninivaggi, as well as other senior company officials and some of the plant’s 400 workers.
