David Vonderhaar responds to League Play complaints in Black Ops Cold War

Call of Duty is a much bigger franchise than Apex Legends, there’s no doubt about it. Activision’s games are the best-selling games in the first-person shooter genre and Infinity Ward made Warzone a huge hit with Modern Warfare, but there’s probably no better time to get off the ship.

2020 was a pivotal year for CoD. Warzone was released in March and has undoubtedly increased the franchise’s appeal to casual gamers, people who may not have bothered to buy the latest Call of Duty titles. All the great streamers in the world were jumping into Verdansk – from Dr Disrespect to NICKMERCS – and the hype around the game was off the charts.

The successes have been recorded and will go down in developer history, with over 75 million downloads reported by Statista in August of this year.

In the months since the integration of Black Ops Cold War, which began in December 2020, it took a downfall to say the least. Just when you thought the cheating issues would be over, it’s commonplace. Just when you thought the hit recording issues were gone, they’re back.

This begs the question, really, and it is Why do players always come back to a broken experience?

Warzone’s current traps

Now some gamers might tell you that there is no such thing as Warzone, in terms of a great map experience and 150 people jumping every time. It is true. The Gulag was a unique creation that no other battle royale game had experienced, and people loved it at first.

The loading aspect of the game was also classic Call of Duty, creating your own class for battle. It would be easy to list the game’s unique features for days on end, but there are some glaring issues that you just don’t have to live with in other games – like Apex Legends.

Activision had time to implement an anti-cheat that could protect the integrity of matches, but they are still lacking. The developers destroyed cheaters by the tens, hundreds and thousands, but it almost turns into a zombie game. These hackers are creating new accounts and returning to the game in greater numbers. There has not been a definitive victory with the current system, and there may never be.

Apex keeps things fresh

Put cheating aside – which is a huge problem, but one that everyone is aware of nonetheless – there are some things about Respawn Entertainment’s game that are second to none.

You’ll see a constant flurry of map changes in the game, whether it’s on a season-by-season basis, or built into the city takeovers that happen regularly. On a monthly basis, we have seen constant additions to in-game events for the community to enjoy. Next up is the Season 8 Anniversary Collection event – eg.

These typically include the aforementioned Town Takeover – where a Legend is given a themed section of the map – and Limited Time Modes (LTM) which are always fun to play. When you consider all of this, in addition to the game’s daily challenges and new quests, Warzone looks outdated in comparison.

There are unique play styles based on the legend you choose, three equally popular rotating maps (Kings Canyon, World’s Edge, Olympus), as well as different skill levels required for certain weapons. Apart from that, there are a few more basic upgrades to point out.

Apex Legends makes the passage so much better

First of all, Apex Legends has an advantage in one of the most basic features, and that is immersing in the action at the start of a game. No one knows where the final circle will end before it hits the ground. . This is a feature in high demand among Warzone players and would definitely improve the distribution of players across the map at the start of a game.

On top of that, the team also has the option of landing together. This is useful for a number of reasons, as it can keep your teammates closer to each other, prevent all three players from needing to know where has been marked on the map, and give your team leader more influence. .

It might not be as much of a requested feature as the changes to the First Ring, but it’s certainly a useful tool in ensuring that less skilled teammates – shall we say – don’t disappear.

Superior looting system

Second, the looting system is on another level. Apex Legends is a serious winner with this, as the color coding method for weapons, ammo types, and other item rarities makes it easier to create your loadout.

You also don’t have to press the same button multiple times to pick up something, which is an awkward issue for Warzone players to tackle. Looting can be done at a rapid rate on the ground or from loot bins, and the frustrating dumping of loot when a player dies in Warzone is non-existent here. Everything is hidden in a Death Box, which contains the contents of everything the slain enemy had on them prior to elimination. Again, this eliminates the annoying process of repeatedly clicking on items to pick up the item you want.

Apex Legends Ranked and Competitive Mode

The last point to emphasize is that there is a dedicated ranked mode. In Ranked, players can fight their way through the various competitive levels, ranging from Bronze to Apex Predator. This is something that Warzone fans have been looking for for a long time now.

There is also a higher skill cap in Apex Legends. Most of the weapons in the game have some distinct characteristics that set them apart from the rest in the loot pool.

In Warzone, you can choose any number of SMGs and ARs without realizing their differences, as they are so minor. With the quirks of every weapon in the Outlands, there is a different way to play, meaning you could become a medium / highly skilled player with one of the older pistols like the Flatline, but then struggle with a new one. 30-30 repeating rifle.

There aren’t a lot of mastered weapons in Apex, so in that sense there’s more balance as well. There has never been a DMR or Mac-10 problem, for example, where everyone is running with the same gun because it’s better than everyone else.

Players in this game need to hone their abilities with just one weapon or legend to get better, rather than making a class out of the box, calling a loadout, and ensuring that your weapon is (potentially) better than your opponent. In this hypothetical scenario, we also don’t take into account that the enemy could well be a hacker, which is all the more likely given the lack of a serious anti-cheat.

To conclude, Activision is unlikely to get it right and make some changes in the coming seasons to improve the experience. But in the meantime, Apex Legends is definitely a step forward. What not to love about Legends with different abilities, new content regularly with new characters and map changes, not to mention upgrades on features already found in Warzone.
