Trump-appointed Oregon Attorney Billy Williams who has prosecuted more Antifa suspects than any other is among many federal prosecutors who will step down at the request of the Biden administration.
Williams, 64, was formally appointed to the post by former President Donald Trump in 2017 after acting and acting since 2015, when he replaced former US lawyer Amanda Marshall, who resigned during a sexual harassment investigation.
Last week, he reported that the summer riots in Portland caused at least $ 2.3 million to a handful of federal buildings in the city alone.

Williams’ office had filed the most domestic terrorism cases outside of the country’s U.S. Attorney’s Office in 2020, the Oregonian reported. Most of them were connected with more than two months of protests outside the city’s Mark O. Hatfield courthouse.
Nightly clashes with police involved graffiti, broken windows and firecrackers, as well as Molotov cocktails.
Although the riots were the result of protests against the Trump administration, police brutality and racial injustice, they continued even after President Biden took office on January 20. Antifa protesters lashed out at the new president and new anti-Biden graffiti appeared.
Other recent cases conducted by his office include the prosecution of a man who sent threat cards and white powder to former colleagues and a fraud case against a former Nike marketing manager.
He is not the only Trump-appointed federal prosecutor who has been asked to resign by the Biden administration, although a bipartisan group of senators initially backed Williams for the post.
The Justice Department on Tuesday asked most of the U.S. attorneys appointed by Trump to resign – though the prosecutor in a federal tax investigation involving the president’s son Hunter Biden will remain in office at the attorney general’s request by interim Monty Wilkinson.

U.S. Attorney John Durham, who former Attorney General Bill Barr appointed to investigate the Trump-Russia inquiry in October, will also remain in that capacity while being asked to step down from his role as U.S. attorney in Connecticut.
Historically, it’s not uncommon for federal prosecutors to step down when a new president takes office.
