Day-to-Day Los Angeles Rams Aaron Donald (rib), Cooper Kupp (knee); The QB situation is still unclear

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif .– Uncertainty looms over the health of the Los Angeles Rams as they begin to prepare for a divisional round playoff game at the Green Bay Packers.

Defensive tackle Aaron Donald has a rib injury, wide receiver Cooper Kupp has a bursitis in his knee, quarterback John Wolford has a sting and quarterback Jared Goff continues to recover from thumb surgery he he suffered on December 28.

Rams coach Sean McVay expressed optimism Sunday night that Donald and Kupp can return for next Saturday’s game, but the quarterback’s situation remains uncertain.

“I want to be able to see their health,” said McVay Wolford and Goff. “That’s the first thing, and we’ll sort of go from there.”

McVay said he hasn’t determined who will start against the Packers, and he hasn’t indicated if he is leaning in any direction.

Wolford started a second straight game on Saturday in a 30-20 playoff win over the Seattle Seahawks, but he came out with 5:40 left in the first quarter after suffering a stinger.

Goff walked into the game – 12 days of surgery to fix a broken thumb on his throwing hand – and passed 155 yards and a touchdown. Afterwards, Goff said he didn’t feel any pain in his thumb and was “very capable of what I have at the moment”, although he is less than 100% healthy. .

However, McVay said on Sunday that it was evident Goff’s injured thumb was affecting his game, and the coach declined to speculate on who would start against the Packers if Goff’s recovery continued to progress without any setbacks.

“I’m going to take it one day at a time. It affected him yesterday; you watch the game, he did it,” McVay said of Goff. “And so it might not have been painful, but it was something that he did a great job fighting, being ready to go; and there were some things that he is generally able to perform that seemed to be a factor.

Wolford and Goff were the Rams’ only active quarterbacks against the Seahawks, but McVay said that due to the circumstances, he might keep an active third quarterback against the Packers.

As for Donald, who recorded 13.5 sacks in the regular season and added two more against the Seahawks, McVay declined to provide details when asked about the severity of his rib injury.

“We will be smart with him throughout the week,” McVay said. “But I think if there is something he is going to do, he will do whatever he can to be ready to go.”

Donald suffered the injury in the third quarter in Seattle when he hit quarterback Russell Wilson, who appeared to land on Donald’s ribs. Donald left the game and did not return.

Kupp left the game in the fourth quarter, although McVay said his injury did not occur in any specific play.

“We’re kind of going to watch that day for him and hopefully reduce that swelling and inflammation with anticipation and hope he’s ready to go,” McVay said.

McVay also said left guard David Edwards, who left Saturday’s tilt in the second quarter, has Achilles tendonitis and will be day to day. If unable to play, Bobby Evans will go to left guard.
