SUP3R5 appears to have canceled production of the “Inspired by Retro” PS5 after receiving “credible threats to their security”.

As reported by Video games chronicle, SUP3R5 canceled all orders and removed their Twitter account. In the deleted tweets, they said, “We take these threats seriously. We are not prepared to risk the safety and well-being of our team, nor the potential impact this would have on the delivery of your order. “
The consoles were designed to capitalize on the 20th anniversary of the PlayStation 2 console, creating a black design with blue highlights. The design also featured the inclusion of the original multi-colored PlayStation logo for added nostalgia.
SUP3R5 initially charged $ 649 for the digital version and $ 749 for the disc player version. Retail versions of these consoles would cost around $ 399 for digital and $ 499 for one with a disc player.
The company was also willing to customize the DualSense controllers for $ 99, at the cost of the controller warranty, as the customization process would require taking the controller apart.
Fans of the PlayStation brand have been hoping that the easily removable faceplates would lead to available customization, but there has been no sign that Sony is making cosmetic faceplates.
The PlayStation’s retro design rollback comes after an independent company known as CustomizeMyPlates sought to make its own versions of front panels as third-party PlayStation devices.
Sony has been reported to have threatened legal action against the company, forcing them to cease production. As a result, they were required to reimburse all customers who had pre-ordered a PS5 faceplate.
