Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser said his team was “extremely concerned” about security ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20 following the violence on the United States Capitol in a letter to the Secretary Acting Department of Homeland Security, Chad Wolf.
Bowser on Saturday asked the Department of Homeland Security to “adjust its approach to the inauguration,” including extending the special national security event to run from January 11 to 24 (current period is from 19 to January 21).

Bowser is also asking for a pre-disaster declaration under Stafford Act for the inauguration, and Boswer has asked the Department of Homeland Security to coordinate with other departments, including the Department of Justice.
“We strongly believe that the 59th Presidential Inauguration on January 20 will require a very different approach than previous inaugurations given the chaos, injuries and death suffered on the United States Capitol during the insurgency,” Bowser wrote.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, DN.Y., echoed his concerns in a statement following his conversation with FBI Director Christopher Wray on Saturday.
“The threat from violent extremist groups remains high and the coming weeks will be crucial in our democratic process with the inauguration on the US Capitol to swear in President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris,” Schumer said.
“Since the same inflammatory and dangerous rhetoric online that took place before January 6, which turned out to be a warning of the insurgency attack, has only intensified since then, I made it clear to Director Wray the vitality of the FBI to work with other federal and state authorities, agencies to remain very proactive and extremely vigilant in defending our democracy, ”he continued.

Meanwhile, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, DN.Y., told ABC “This Week” that Capitol Police had “potentially compromised items” and demanded an investigation into what was wrong on the 6th. January.
“We have to review what really happened on Wednesday, the National Guard was requested by the DC Council and was rejected,” she said on Sunday. “We are talking and hearing about a complete and utter lack of preparation.”
“The DC Capitol Police Chief lied to House Administration Speaker Zoe Lofgren about preparations for what happened,” she continued. “We need to know what happened and how far it goes. And if we don’t and if we don’t take corrective action now, we are talking about these same potentially compromised elements that are in charge of the safety of the president during the inauguration. “

Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund announced his resignation Thursday, a day after protesters violated the Capitol, invaded its officers and instigated lawmakers on both sides of the aisle in Washington, including a call for that he resign from the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D -Calif. His last day was Friday.
