New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio abused police resources for his security details, according to a new report released Thursday by the city’s Department of Investigations (DOI), to help his adult daughter leave Brooklyn, as well as to transport campaign staff during his presidential candidacy.
The DOI discovered that the Democratic mayor had abused police resources by asking members of his Executive Protection Unit (EPU) to help move his daughter, Chiara de Blasio, out of her Brooklyn apartment in 2018. The DOI also determined that New York City spent $ 319,794 on members of Mayor de Blasio’s security service to travel on his presidential campaign trips. The mayor has yet to reimburse the city for these funds, either personally or through his campaign. The report also states that during these campaign trips, UEP members occasionally transported de Blasio’s campaign staff with the mayor.
Both reflect a use of NYPD resources for political purposes, according to the DOI.
For about a year, the Security Service has been carrying out frequent security checks at homes owned by the mayor of Brooklyn, where neither he nor his family members currently reside. The NYPD inspector in charge of the security details of the First Family “actively obstructed and sought to thwart this investigation, frustrating the DOI’s efforts to find out all the facts regarding these allegations,” the report said.

The mayor’s office told Fox News Digital that the DOI report ignored “the very real threat assessment and concern” against the mayor and his family – specifically citing the fact that the president of the Sergeant Benevolent Association ( SBA), Ed Mullins, who is the subject of a criminal investigation, “tweeted the personal information of the mayor’s daughter last June.”
Mullins shared Chiara de Blasio’s arrest report in June 2020 on Twitter after the 25-year-old mayor’s daughter was arrested as violent protests swept through the city following the death of George Floyd. The mayor’s office also said on Thursday that “the January 6 insurgency in the capital [sic] highlights the real and present danger, especially for elected officials who have publicly opposed Trump. “

The FBI raided Manhattan headquarters for the Sergeant Benevolent Association and the Long Island home of Mullins, the union president, earlier in the week. The New York FBI declined to comment on the subject of the federal investigation.
Mullins has been a staunch critic of Blasio’s administration and was being disciplined for comments made on Twitter, including the release of Blasio’s daughter’s arrest report in June 2020, amid violent protests swept through the city in reaction to the death of George Floyd.
