Dead Island 2 has been announced since the beginning of 2014 and its development has been anything but smooth. The game was originally announced with Spec Ops: The Line, the Yager studio announced as a developer.
But in 2015, the publisher Deep Silver announced that it was separating from Yager and it was later confirmed that Sumo Digital would assume the role of lead developer.
Deep Silver was later purchased by THQ Nordic, who is now the publisher of Dead Island 2. This week, THQ Nordic announced its results and included an image of the Dead Island 2 logo. This suggests that the game is still in preparation and THQ Nordic General Manager Lars Wingefors has confirmed this.

That's all that Wingefors had to say about Dead Island 2. It is not yet known when Dead Island 2 could resurface or what changes could be made.
During the conference call, Wingefors also spoke about THQ Nordic's extensive development pipeline. He added that the company had 80 projects in preparation, including 32 advertised and 48 non-advertised titles. Unannounced titles include new Kingdom Warmerse Kingdom Come Studio, Volition, developer of Saints Row, and Metro dev 4A Games.
Years ago, it was announced that Dead Island 2 would have a strong focus on melee combat and RPG elements. According to Deep Silver, he will also have homemade weapons "never seen before". The game is powered by Unreal Engine 4 and will take players to places such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and Venice Beach. Another previously announced feature is the "seamless" multiplayer mode that can accommodate up to eight players who can "cooperate, compete or simply coexist". The publisher described this as a "new generation multiplayer experience".
However, it remains to be seen what could have changed during the tumultuous development of the game. The E3 2019 is preparing next month, but nothing so far has suggested that Dead Island 2 resurfaces at the video game show .
