Electronic Arts is really creating that Dead Space game that fans wanted. The game is simply called “Dead Space”. And as I reported earlier, this represents developer EA Motive’s desire to remake the original game while restarting the franchise as a whole. And fans should have the chance to hear the results of those efforts when Dead Space launches in the fall of 2022, according to sources familiar with the development.

That means the game is just over a year away. Of course, in the tumultuous gaming industry, target dates frequently slip. And it’s important to note that EA has yet to publicly declare or confirm Dead Space’s release schedule.

I reached out to EA for comment, and a spokesperson for the publisher provided the following statement:

“We haven’t shared a release date for the game, and we have no comments based on current rumors and speculation. But we’re glad people are excited about the game!”

But internally, EA plans to launch Dead Space in its 2023 fiscal year, so we won’t see that in its financial forecast until early next year. But by then we will probably have more news from the publisher on this game.

The company intends to reveal more of Dead Space before the end of 2021. It could come in the form of a trailer posted on the company’s YouTube page, or maybe it’s another contender for show up at the Game Awards in December.

At that point, it’s possible EA will give a release date, although that may go against current trends. Many publishers keep final release dates a secret until much later in the go-to-market cycle. This is due to the pandemic which makes a difficult business even more uncertain. But it’s also because publishers see little problem as games continue to sell even if customers have to wait until the last minute for release details. For example, Nintendo only announced Mario Golf: Super Rush in February and sold over 1.3 million copies in 5 days in June.
