Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said Thursday he was opposed to the idea of hospitals forcing employees to take the coronavirus vaccine.
“It’s not something I support,” Florida Republican said noted at a press conference at Tampa General Hospital. “Here’s the problem I think you’re going to run into. Hospitals are having a hard time retaining staff.”

The Jackson Healthcare System in Florida announcement Thursday that he will demand that hospital staff be vaccinated or be forced to comply with restrictions. Carlos Migoya, CEO of Jackson Health, said staff who do not have at least one dose of the vaccine by Aug. 23 must wear N95 masks at all times.
Earlier this week, California became the first state to mandate hospital workers take the vaccine and have told workers at hospitals, nursing homes, doctor’s offices, clinics and other medical facilities that they have until September 30 to take their first dose.

DeSantis has been criticized by Democrats for failing to impose strict coronavirus restrictions in his state and has publicly argued with President Biden and White House press secretary Jen Psaki over face masks and the spread of the coronavirus.
Last month Psaki accused DeSantis to put children “at risk” by not forcing them to wear masks in schools. This week, President Biden Recount DeSantis to “step aside” in order to let the federal government manage the response to the coronavirus.
