Dean E. “Poppy” Hinderliter, 77, from Navarre, FL passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 12, 2021. He resided in Broadalbin for many years and moved to Navarre, FL in July 2020.

Dean was born in Clarion, PA on February 15, 1944 to Reverend Fred and Evelyn Hinderliter and was a proud veteran of the US Air Force. After being released from the Air Force, he worked in the construction industry for many years.

Deans’ favorite activities were finding something to build out of a piece of junk wood and spending time with his four grandchildren, Gage, Matthew, Kyle and Kelsey. In his early years he was passionate about hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed telling stories from his childhood with his childhood and lifelong friend, Sonny Loop in Russell, NY.

Dean is survived by his wife, Alice of 53 years and three sons, Dean Hinderliter of Syracuse, NY, Dale and Jeannine Hinderliter and their two children, Matthew and Kelsey of Broadalbin, NY, and Darrin and Angela Hinderliter and their two children, Gage and Kyle from Navarre, Florida; three brothers, Larry, Fred and Jim; and three sisters, Terri, Sharon and Wanda.

Calling hours will be Friday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc., 111 County Highway 106 (corner of Highway 29 and Black Street), Johnstown followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Linda Martin, officiant. Interment with military honors will be held at the Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery.
