Randolph County state police and county police aides announced Friday that they had arrested Rebecca Lynn O Donnell, 48, of Pocahontas, Arkansas. Criminal charges against him are pending, the state police said in a statement.

The authorities do not publish more information on the arrest at the moment to preserve the integrity of the investigation. Collins-Smith's death is under investigation as a homicide, the statement said. The information about O Donnell's attorney was not immediately available.

Collins-Smith was found fatally shot in his home in Randolph County on June 4th.

Two former senators found dead in Arkansas and Oklahoma in a few days

She was one of two former Republican senators found dead at home in less than two days. The next day, Jonathan Nichols was found dead in his home in Oklahoma, after reports of firearms shooting.

The deaths seem to be irrelevant.

Collins-Smith was first elected to the Arkansas Senate in 2014 and lost his party's primary school last year, said CNN affiliate KARK. She was a Democrat but adopted the Republican Party.

The Governor of Arkansas, Asa Hutchinson, presented his condolences to his loved ones.

"She was a good person who served in the public arena with passion and conviction," said Hutchinson. "The first lady and I extend our deepest condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time."
