Death of the Cleveland Marathon: Taylor Ceepo, 22, shattered and died during the race

Taylor Ceepo, a recent graduate of Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio, was 22 years old. She was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital, said Cleveland University Medical Center spokesman George Stamatis at CNN.

Health care providers at university hospitals treated about 60 to 70 people in the marathon, Stamatis said. The temperatures were hot on race day and reached 80 degrees at 9 am ET.

"It is with deep sadness that we can confirm that a runner collapsed during the race this morning," said the Cleveland Marathon Twitter account. posted Sunday. "We are looking at the situation further, but our thoughts and prayers are with his family first and foremost during this difficult time."

Ceepo, of Medina, Ohio, was part of the women's football team in Walsh. The Athletics Department said in a tweet: "It is with great sadness that our Walsh family has lost one of ours, Taylor Ceepo, too soon". An article from the University on Facebook announced that she had died after participating in the marathon. She was in the class of 2019.

Ceepo attended St. Vincent-St. Mary in Akron. The high school held a mass for her Monday morning. Mass was held in Walsh on Sunday.
