A 19-year-old Dunkirk has been charged with second-degree identity theft and fourth-degree robbery after a fraud complaint in the city.
Fredonia State Police said they charged Tyler J. Czekanski after responding to a fraud complaint. The complainant said he noticed two unauthorized transactions on his debit card the morning after dining at a restaurant. The victim added that when checking the card himself, he noticed that it did not belong to him. He said there must have been a mix of maps at the location. One unauthorized purchase was for a different restaurant order, while the other was for a purchase over $ 1,000 on Ebay.
When Troopers returned the debit card to Czekanski, he said the card was not used for other purchases than the “accidental” one at the restaurant. Further investigation revealed that the information received from Ebay matched Czekanski’s account information and that Ebay’s order number matched what the victim found in his bank account.
Czekanski reported to Fredonia, and was ultimately indicted, both E crimes. He was released on appearance tickets for later this month to appear in Dunkirk city court.
