DEFIANCE, Ohio (WTVG) – For over 20 years, VIP nails have been a staple in downtown Defiance. The nail salon is best known for its husband and wife owners, Victor and Mylinh Pham.

“They complement each other, they are perfect for each other,” said Konnie Meyer, VIP customer and friend of the Pham family. “They are each other’s yin and yang, I guess you would say.

“Their love story is amazing, I dream of a love story like this,” said Katrina King, VIP customer and friend of the Pham family. “If I can’t have a love like Victor and Mylinh, I don’t want to love at all.

Victor and Mylinh met in California after Victor left his home in Vietnam with nothing but the clothes on his back. Now the two have a life together here at Defiance, where they say they spend every day dedicated to their faith and love for each other.

“My wife represents the whole world to me. God and Jesus first, then my wife, ”said Victor Pham. “He’s my number one human being.”

On Christmas night, while spending time with her family, Mylinh began to fall ill with a headache. Mylinh passed out on their bathroom floor and did not wake up, suffering from a double brain aneurysm.

“I was crying and bawling,” Victor said. “I didn’t know what to do, my wife does everything for me, everything.

Mylinh was airlifted to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor where she continues to fight for her life.

Today marks Mylinh and Victor’s 16th wedding anniversary.

“He’s celebrating their anniversary in the best way he can,” said Konnie Meyer. “Right now he feels the strength of God behind him and he feels like he has to do something.

Victor decided that something would be an 87.9 mile walk, from Defiance to Ann Arbor.

“I think about my wife a lot,” said Victor. “Like she’s lying in a hospital, she’s in a coma.

Victor is only allowed one hour in the hospital with his wife due to COVID restrictions. Victor says he walks for his time to count, praying for his wife’s recovery every step of the way.

“Anyone who knows them knows Victor loves Lynn. Victor loves Lynn more than life itself, ”said Katrina King. “He has faith that she will do it, and we all do.

Victor started his walk to see his wife on Friday morning at 8 a.m. Victor has no schedule for arriving on foot at the hospital. Victor has the support of his family and friends who provide him with places to spend the night, food and heat sources throughout his journey.

“I know God will bring my wife,” Victor said. “She will wake up, she will come home, not to have a normal life, but my wife and I will have a great life.”

Mylinh remains in a coma and is attached to a tracheal tube with half of her skull removed by medics to relieve pressure and swelling around her brain. A Go Fund Me account has been created for Mylinh’s medical expenses. Victor asks the community for prayers more than anything else.
