DELPHOS – Safety is the priority of a relatively new weapons store in Delphos.
GreyFox Defense recently opened at 207 S. Main St., Delphos. Owner Jeff Jacomet says he’s owned the building for about a year and didn’t start doing anything with it until last February.
“We just got everything in place with the guns and training and ammunition and that sort of thing, so it all finally falls into place,” Jacomet said.
GreyFox Defense is open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Thursday and by appointment on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Jacomet’s day job is with the Lima Police Department, where he has been since 2004. He has been in law enforcement for 32 years and has been a firearms instructor since 1994.
“It’s something I’ve always done, and I love training civilians and I’ve had over 1,000 people go through my concealed porterage training. So we thought we were going to grow, ”said Jacomet. “I have two other guys training with me, Aaron McGomery and Aaron Rode. They also do a lot of women’s self-defense and tactical training here.
Jacomet realizes that guns can be a divisive issue.
“Everyone has their opinion on guns, and I think and hope the majority would also that training is the main issue,” Jacomet said. “People just aren’t educated on what they do – how they work. And with kids playing video games these days, I don’t think kids realize what happens when you pull a trigger. It is not something that is on a controller. It’s something real, and the effect is much, much more devastating than a video game.
The store itself has guns for sale, as well as ammunition. It also offers concealed porterage courses.
They have a gun simulator and a trailer where they can go onsite for training for families or business groups.
“Our main focus is training,” Jacomet said. “We love to go out and educate the public about guns, self defense and personal protection. So many people want the training but often feel intimidated. We like to take fear out of the equation, letting people learn at their own pace, in a safe and pressure-free environment. “
