Democratic Senators Push to Unclog Trump's "False Panel" on Climate Change

SMinority leader Chuck Schumer, NS, said the Democrats would introduce a bill to deter a White House group on climate change from fear of being attacked by skeptics.

Schumer called the group led by the National Security Council "a fake group of handpicked scientists who are questioning the seriousness of climate change to counter the scientific consensus on this extremely urgent problem."

The Trump administration has not officially announced the formation of the group, but reports of its creation have sparked criticism from Democrats and environmental groups. It follows a national climate assessment conducted by several federal agencies that warned of the dangers of climate change.

Schumer said the White House panel should not try to counter the claims made in this assessment.

"It is our own government that deliberately sows disinformation on climatology of climate science, so it can not hold," he said.

Democrats are in the Senate minority and Republicans will not discuss Schumer's move to cut funding for the panel.
