SUS House Committee leaders on Friday tabled a non-binding resolution in which they hoped the special advocate's report, Robert Mueller, would be made public once it was over.
In a joint statement issued on Friday, the commission's leaders, all Democrats, urged newly-confirmed Attorney General William Barr to pledge to release all details of the Mueller report to the public and to Congress once. that the report will have been finalized by the special council.
"As the Department of Justice has made clear in the past two years, the Department of Justice's policy authorizes the release of investigative materials when they serve the public interest, even when they concern "unpaid third parties". The public clearly benefits from transparency regarding any investigation that may involve or exonerate the president and his campaign. We urge our colleagues on both sides of the aisle to join us in supporting this common sense resolution, "the statement said.
The original members of the resolution are: Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., Chairman of the Judiciary Committee; Elijah E. Cummings, D-Md., Who heads the Monitoring and Reform Committee; Adam Schiff, D-Calif., Chairman of the Intelligence Committee; Maxine Waters, D-Calif., Who heads the Financial Services Committee; Richard Neal, D-Mass., Chair of the Committee of Ways and Means; and the chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Eliot Engel, D-N.Y.
Special advocate Robert Mueller was appointed to investigate Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election. His investigation culminated in the indictment of dozens of people, ranging from and Russian companies to former Trump campaign director Paul Manafort.
The way in which the Mueller Final Report will be handled has been an important part of Barr's confirmation process in recent months as Democrats fear that the Trump government will hide potentially damaging parts of the report. Barr said that he would not stop supervising the investigation.
