Wilber portillo, an 18-year-old in Denver, has died after contracting COVID-19 for what his family and friends say is a second time.
Portillo’s cousin and his girlfriend claim Portillo tested positive for the virus in early October and again in mid-November, just two days before his death.
He reportedly went to the doctor on November 18, where he was told he had a “strong infection” in his lungs. He fell asleep that night and never woke up.
According to a local report, Portillo contracted COVID-19 in the first week of October, and after his quarantine and recovery, he believed he had immunity. His girlfriend, Andrea Ferrel, argued that he still practiced social distancing.
However, after a month he was ill again.

“Just because you’re young you’re not immune,” Ferrel said, “and even though we’re seeing more cases with older people and people with health issues and even people without problems health, it is important that you stay at home. “
Portillo was a frequent volunteer. One of the organizations he worked for, Metro Caring, wrote about him on Twitter: “He loved snowboarding, entrepreneurship and inspiring others. Wilber Portillo was 18 and infected with COVID when he died on November 19.

A GoFundMe effort hosted by Portillo’s cousin Jamie Gomez who has since ended noted, “If there’s anything we’d like you to remember about Wilber, it’s, BE THE BEST OF YOU.” It was his motto, be the best of you, live life to the fullest. We also hope to raise awareness that COVID-19 must be taken seriously. It doesn’t matter how young or healthy you look. Please stay home as much as you can, unless it is for basic needs. “
The fund raised over $ 13,000 for funeral services in Portillo.
Public Health England, an association of healthcare workers in Britain, noted that studies show infection with antibodies typically lasts for five months. The potential for re-infection is typically higher in healthcare workers or those in critical roles facing the public.
