Despite doctor’s determination, Spokane’s mother doesn’t believe COVID killed her daughter

SPOKANE, Washington – The only child to die from COVID-19 in Spokane County is a teenage girl, but her mother doesn’t believe the virus was what killed her.

Abbi Watson, 15, tested positive for the virus 18 hours after suffering multiple asthma attacks and cardiac arrest. She died at Sacred Heart Hospital last Friday.

COVID-19 is listed on the death certificate her mother, Stacy Nichols, shared with 4 News Now. She says her daughter had several pre-existing lifelong illnesses, including asthma. Nichols says his daughter was feeling fine on Wednesday, but collapsed later that night. She went into cardiac arrest and was brain dead by the time she arrived at the hospital, where she remained in a coma until her death.

Nichols is convinced her daughter’s lifelong health conditions killed her and the virus has turned political.

She is furious that the Spokane Regional Health District has counted her daughter as a victim of COVID.

“She wasn’t a child who died of COVID, and that’s the fact that – the health department thinks they’re cool and they can just say things like that,” Nichols says. “She had pre-existing condition issues and who can tell she really had COVID.”

Abbi is the youngest victim in Spokane County, and according to Health Department measurements, possibly all of Washington state during this pandemic.
