Destiny 2: Beyond the LightThe Deep Stone Crypt raid went live yesterday and after nearly six hours the fire crews started to emerge victorious, unlocking a bunch of new content for the entire game.

If you have logged in Destiny 2 around 1:00 p.m. ET yesterday you would have been invited to attempt the game’s final raid, a puzzle-filled race through the most secret and dangerous parts of the Clovis Bray Europa facility in order to keep them from falling in the hands of the Maison. of fallen salvation. If you reconnected during the evening, you would have been greeted by a new animated cutscene the establishment of the next phase of the current Beyond the light expansion, similar to two years ago when those who beat The Last Wish opened the rest of the Forsaken expansion.

This year’s raid, which helped push Destiny 2 atop the Twitch charts throughout the afternoon, was full of good times, including getting up to a space station and then crashing it over Europe. destiny luminous clan claimed victory as the first players in the world to beat the Deep Stone Crypt, and indeed appear to be the winners, although Bungie is currently reviewing the results and checking the cheat before officially declaring the champions.

For everyone else, here is the new content of Beyond the light which has just opened:

  • A new quest from Variks.
  • A new quest for the Exo Stranger.
  • A new exotic quest for the Lament sword.
  • The beginning of the eclipsed zones on Europa.
  • Unlocking the rest of Variks’ sabotage missions.

These first two quests are quite short and straightforward, but each rewarding in its own way. Variks’ takes place in a separate area and involves a bunch of platforms and interesting dialogue. The Exo Stranger quest is more boring but unlocks the High Albedo handgun, a welcome addition in these times of loot shortage.

A new area of Bray Exoscience called Creation has been opened on Europa and features Bungie art direction and world building shooting on all cylinders.

The Eclipsed Areas, meanwhile, are new rotating regions of the Europa map where the space station wreckage falls from the sky (more on that in a moment). As Zones play into some of the new quest stages, they also appear to have new activities associated with it, including at least one that revolves around hacking consoles and killing drones that use raid-like mechanics.

The biggest additions are three new Exotics. While one, one Very powerful multi-target rocket launcher called Eyes of Tomorrow, only drops when the raid is over, the other two can easily be won right away. The Cloudstrike Exotic Sniper Rifle is a random drop from an Empire Hunt playlist that opens after you complete the Variks Europan Explorer I and II missions. The exotic sword Lament has its own much more complex questline. Again, without spoiling too much, it’s all about investigating Exo artifacts on Europa, learning about Gunsmith Banshee-44’s past, and earning a really fun new weapon in the process. I wish every exotic questline was this interesting and rewarding.

Taken as a whole this is exactly the shot in the arm Beyond the light needed right now, and a great way to dive deeper into Europe, especially for those who aren’t ready to take on the raid itself while the contest settings are still in effect. That doesn’t completely make up for the lack of new or refreshed loot pools overall, and the Hunting Season’s Wraithborn hunts still seem a bit shallow at the moment, but the exploration and history, Beyond the light offers a lot.
