The owner of three dogs is in police custody after violently attacking and killing a 9-year-old girl who was playing in a driveway near her home in Detroit, police said on Tuesday.
Emma Hernandez was cycling on Monday afternoon when the three dogs – described as pit bulls or pit bull mixes – escaped from a court and attacked her, police said. Fox 2
She died in a hospital and the owner of the dog was arrested. No charges have been filed.
"I did my best, I tried CPR, I tried to help her, I did everything I could," she said. Tuesday Emma's father, Armando Hernandez, at WWJ-AM. "She was gone when I reached her."
Deborah Golden, a neighbor who tried to help Emma, told WXYZ-TV that she had heard the girl scream and that she "knew that something serious was happening. had passed.
"I saw the little girl lying flat on her back with bite marks and a part of her neck hanging down," Golden said. "I started CPR and I asked the father to grab the neck and hold it."

A spectator shot down one of the dogs while a medical team was trying to save the girl. The other dogs were captured. The neighbors threw bricks at the dogs in an attempt to stop the attack, police said.
"They did not stop," Edward Cruz, a Detroit News newspaper, said he had launched a brick after he heard screams. "I had to intervene."
Hernandez said the dogs were living in a house behind his own and that he had quarreled with the neighbor about them last week. Hernandez said the dogs were not properly restrained and the fence was too fragile.
"I knew the dogs were there, I knew the neighbor," he said. "We quarreled about this last week and he just did not take care of his dogs, he could have prevented that."

Hernandez said that he continued to replay the tragedy and that he felt "empty".
"I'm really heartbroken right now, I can not explain it," he said. "Just, every time I close my eyes, man, I see my little girl."

Animal Control took possession of the remaining dogs, reported WXYZ.
City officials said the dogs would probably be euthanized. Prosecutors now determine what charges, if any, their owner might face.
