The Detroit Red Wings added another choice to their rebuilding efforts on Friday.

the announced team he treated Nick Jensen at the Washington Capitals in exchange for a second-round pick in 2020 and defenseman Madison Bowey.

The Wings also sent Buffalo's fifth round pick in 2019 to Washington, leaving the Wings with 10 picks in the 2019 draft.

Jensen was an unrestricted free agent waiting for the Wings to bring back. Shortly after the exchange for him, however, the capitals announced that they had signed a $ 10 million extension contract with Jensen.

A second-round pick, however, is a good comeback for Jensen and gives Wings eight choices in 2020. They made 21 choices in the last two events.

Bowey, 23, has one goal and five assists in 33 games this season and 18 points in 84 career NHL games. The Capitals selected him in the second round, 53rd overall, in 2013. He's a good skater and he has some puck skills, but he's prone to errors.

Jensen, 28, has two goals and 13 assists in 60 games this season. He started the year as a healthy scratch – the Wings chose to start four rookies instead – but was in training for the second game. He has established himself as one of the most stable defenders of the Wings because of his speed and solid play.

The deadline for exchanges is 15 hours. On Monday. Winger Gustav Nyquist and goaltender Jimmy Howard should also draw the attention of opposing teams.
