Ricoh GR III now available for pre-order: APS-C pocket camera with wide-angle main lens

The next generation Ricoh GR series cameras will be marketed on March 18 at a price of $ 899.95. These fast and compact cameras are particularly appreciated by street photographers who appreciate the small size with a relatively large sensor, while enjoying a fixed wide-angle lens of 28mm f / 2.8 (35mm equivalent).

New in the GR III, Ricoh has improved the sensor resolution to 24.2 megapixels and added a new imaging processor, the GR Engine 6. The camera is capable of recording 14-bit raw DNG images and 1080p Full HD video up to 60 frames per second. The GR III actually removed the built-in flash, but its empty space was well used with the new addition of three-axis sensor shift image stabilization. As with the previous two generations, the camera has support for adding a flash back or other external accessories.

The GR III sports a new hybrid phase-detection and contrast-detection autofocus system, now featuring AF auto-area, AF Zone and Select AF modes added.

The newly designed GR III lens has six elements divided into four groups, including two aspherical elements. The minimum focus distance is now reduced to 2.36 inches (6 centimeters) and the f-stop range of aperture is unchanged from f / 2.8 to f / 16.
