Dexter Falls in Huron in Red Showdown

The Dexter football team failed in the SEC Red’s showdown against Ann Arbor Huron on Friday night as the Dreadnaughts fell to the River Rats 28-21.

It was a game when the Dreadnaughts look back it will show they had their chances but couldn’t finish in loss if necessary.

Dexter kicked off the opening and drove to Huron’s 19-yard line, but returned the ball on downs after failing to convert on the fourth down.

The defense then forced a punt and Dexter took over on the River Rat 40-yard line.

The Dreadnaughts would move towards the Huron 12 but were intercepted and the River Rats regained the upper hand.

Huron had a drive and scored on a one-yard TD to take a 7-0 lead.

After a Dexter punt, Huron hit another drive and scored on a one-yard TD to extend the lead to 14-0.

Dexter would drive to Huron’s 22-yard line, but Huron would pick up another pass to kill Dexter’s drive again.

After a pair of punts, Dexter had a round and Cole Cabana hit Cal Bavineau with a 22-yard scoring pass in the last minute of the first half to reduce the lead to 14-7 at the break.

Huron kicked off the second half and rushed to score on another one-yard TD run to make it 21-7.

Dexter then headed for River Rat’s nine-yard line, but once again he ran out of short and returned the ball to the downs.

After a Huron punt, Bavineau hit Braeden Fuson with a scoring pass from 26 yards to reduce the lead to 21-14. At the end of third.

Huron kicked off and roamed the field in a long, long practice and scored on a 22-yard run to make it 28-14 with just over seven minutes to go.

Dexter responded quickly when Bavineau hit Fuson with a scoring pass from 77 yards to reduce the lead to 28-21 with five minutes remaining.

The Dreadnaughts attempted a back kick, but Huron recovered to take over near midfield.

Huron ran the ball to try and eat away at time, but the 4th
and one, the Dreadnaughts have found a stop to take over on their own 47.

The Dreadnaughts couldn’t move the ball and returned the ball to Huron with two minutes remaining.

Bavineau finished 10-29 with passes for 184 yards, two touchdowns and two INTs.

Cabana amassed 136 yards on 23 carries and Bavineau 31 on five attempts. Fuson caught four passes for 146 yards and tow scores, Ty Rychener four for 21, Cabana two for 17 and Bavineau one for 22 and one score.

The Dreadnaughts fell to 4-2 and will face a game to win against Monroe in Dexter Homecoming on Friday night.
