In August, the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office answered 192 calls for service, up from 170 calls last year, a 13% increase. Despite the monthly increase, total calls for the year are down 17% (see graph below). Meanwhile, MPs made 69 traffic stops by issuing 13 citations.

Other notable items from the Police Diary (see link below) include four wellness checks, mental health check, suicide attempt, felony warrant, 24 complaints about McGregor Rd and 29 complaints about Dexter-Pinckney Rd.

The WCSO reported the following events to Dexter Township Council:

On August 2, MPs investigated a car theft in the 8700 block of Hankerd Road. Unknown suspects stole the complainant’s license plate from his vehicle. There are currently no suspect (s) or lead in the incident.

On August 6, MPs assisted the Dexter Area Fire Department [DAFD] with a garage fire in the 9400 block of Horseshoe Bend. There were no injuries, but the garage suffered extensive fire damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the DAFD.

On August 11, MPs responded to the 13000 block of Island Lake Road for a medical emergency. MPs arrived and found the 59-year-old resident who had died of apparent natural causes. The case is closed pending the examination of the death certificate.

On August 17, MPs responded proactively to the 8100 block of Stonehedge Road where contact was made with a 62-year-old resident who was subsequently arrested on a pending warrant without incident.

On August 24, MPs investigated an identity theft complaint in the 4600 block of Dexter Townhall Road. Unknown suspects used the identity of the complainant to open a bank account and attempted to steal money from that account. The suspect (s) failed to withdraw funds. There are currently no suspect (s) or lead in the incident.

On August 27, MPs conducted a traffic check of a vehicle in the Dexter-Pinckney & Wiley Roads area for a traffic violation. During the investigation, the 67-year-old driver from Pinckney was arrested for operating while impaired. [OWI]. The case is awaiting a toxicological report.
