Diablo II: Risen Seeing Launch Day Server Issues

The Diablo II: Risen The launch saw server issues on launch day that brought online play to a halt and prevented connection to existing characters or the creation of new ones. Blizzard responded quickly and things should be improved, with some patchy issues remaining.

Launch day woes are familiar to anyone who enjoys playing games online, and it was no different today when Diablo II: Resurrected came out. The game is a reimagined and refined new take on a beloved classic, so the demand from the server was higher than expected. Since launch is also supported on multiple platforms, the issues weren’t limited to one corner of the player base.

In order to investigate and resolve the issue, Blizzard paused local play for several hours, which meant that only local offline play was available for a while. Diablo Executive Producer Rod Fergusson updated on Twitter that, “We’ve had tons of players online which is great but was a challenge for the servers topping our tests.”

The initial estimate of the downtime was 30 minutes, but the problem remained for a few hours. Then, an emergency maintenance period was announced for 1:00 p.m. PDT. About an hour later, Blizzard CS announcement maintenance was complete and the team will continue to monitor any issues. There should now be a fix that unlocks characters.

Launch issues aren’t new, of course, but the quick attention of the Blizzard team seems to have addressed the most pressing issues, even though some players were reporting missing data, canceled progress, and other issues that required one more attention.

According to Fergusson, “We know a lot of players are still affected, so we are actively adding capacity and will continue until it’s in a better location. It may also involve more restarts.”

Diablo II: Risen brings a bunch of nostalgia along with new features and settings to help bring new players on board. Hoping that all these issues can be resolved soon.
