Another Hampton Roads black caucus, called the Greater Hampton Roads Black Caucus, came out on Wednesday to announce that it endorsed Democrat Terry McAulliffe for governor of Virginia.
A press release from the group said they hoped to “set the record straight and end the confusion over the” Hampton Roads Black Caucus, “which announced the support of Republican Glenn Youngkin last weekend. This would clearly set back the black communities in Virginia. “
“Glenn Youngkin is dangerously out of step with Virginians on COVID-19 and other policies,” said Maurice Hawkins, president of political action for the Black Democrats of Greater Hampton Roads.
The group also stressed the importance for Democrats to retain control of the Virginia House of Delegates.
“This is not about partisan politics, but about principles and the needs of black Virginians,” Hawkins added.
Wednesday’s press conference was held at the Virginia Beach Towne Center fountain in front of Ruth’s Chris Steak House.
