A doctor has revealed the horror of seeing young Covid patients begging her for a vaccine as they lie on their deathbed.

In an outspoken and heartbreaking social media post, Dr Brytney Cobia said she told her dying patients she was sorry but “it’s too late”.

The doctor from Alabama, United States, said: “I am admitting healthy young people with very serious Covid infections to the hospital. One of the last things they do before to be intubated is to ask me for the vaccine.

“I hold their hands and tell them I’m sorry, but it’s too late. A few days later, when I call the hour of death, I hug their family members.

“I tell them the best way to honor their loved one is to go get the vaccine and encourage everyone they know to do the same.

“They cry. And they tell me they didn’t know. They thought it was a hoax. They thought it was political. They thought because they had a certain blood type or a certain skin color. , they wouldn’t get so sick.

“They thought it was ‘just the flu’. But they were wrong. And they wish they could go back. But they can’t. So they thank me and they go get the shot.

“And I go back to my office, I write their obituaries and I say a little prayer that this loss will save more lives.”

The state is last in the country for its vaccination rate and has seen 33.7% of the population fully vaccinated.

In an interview with Al.com, she went on to say, “In 2020 and early 2021, when the vaccine wasn’t available, it was just tragedy after tragedy after tragedy. You know, so many people who did everything right, but still come, seriously ill, and died.

“It’s really difficult because all of us doctors and other medical staff have been doing this for a long time and we are all very, at this point, tired, emotionally exhausted and cynical.”

Speaking of people who are reluctant to get vaccinated, she recommended speaking to a doctor about their concerns, as she did.

She said she tries to be “very non-judgmental” with new Covid patients who aren’t vaccinated and asks them why they haven’t had a vaccine.

She added: “And the only question I always ask them is, have you made an appointment with your GP and asked their advice on whether or not you should get the vaccine? And so far no one has answered yes to that question. “
