Dolly Parton sings ‘Holly Jolly Christmas’ for the parade

For the sake of the health of the nation, literal angel Dolly Parton did not fly to New York and board a float in the cold and rain for this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. She did perform out of a magical, socially distant nothingness, however, and aired it on this year’s show. The brain behind Christmas in the square sang “Holly Jolly Christmas” in a studio filled with Christmas trees, in front of a Thomas Kinkade-ish set of a Cracker Barrel restaurant in the middle of a snowy forest. It’s a bit awkward to see a Cracker Barrel outside of its natural habitat (off an interstate highway in a parking lot filled with F150s) but the segment point is Dolly’s gorgeous trill and the cute ponchos and vests Christmas party – probably from the Cracker Barrel gift shop, sold alongside a garden gnome holding a sign reading “Jesus Loves Florida State Football” – carried by his backing vocals. In the middle of Parton’s performance, she makes us jokes, plugging in her Christmas album: “You know, Thanksgiving is the start of the holiday season. Christmas is coming very soon. Have you finished shopping? I hope you will buy my new one Holly Dolly record because I always wanted to do a little song called “Holly Dolly”. So I did it! And I hope you will take advantage of it for the holidays. The woman gave us a vaccine against the coronavirus; buying your album is the least you can do.
