In baseball, there is usually a culture of keeping your head down and your mouth closed. Players prefer to keep their interpersonal dramas within the confines of the clubhouse as much as possible. So it was a rare exception when Yankees reliever Zack Britton answered a question about teammate Domingo Germán with more than a simple deflection.

“Sometimes you just can’t control who your teammates are,” said Britton. “This is the situation.”

Britton is an MLBPA rep for the team and one of the few remaining pitchers on the 2019 Yankees staff.

Germán returns this spring after an almost 18-month absence from MLB following an 81-game suspension under the league’s domestic violence policy. He served 18 games at the end of the 2019 season, then missed the entire shortened 2020 season while serving his remaining 63 games …
