A passenger on a United Airlines flight captured the moment one of the plane’s engines caught fire and began to collapse after it left Denver, Colo. On Saturday.

A pilot of United flight 328 to Honolulu told air traffic control the plane had an “engine failure” after reporting a “mayday”, authorities said.

Passengers on the flight, which carried 231 travelers and 10 crew members, recorded the burning engine as it cruised through the sky. The video showed the chilling sight of the stripped and burning aircraft engine.

The plane’s crew managed to land safely in Denver after the brief but heartbreaking departure.

Authorities have asked residents of the Broomfield area to leave the fallen metal parts as investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board “want all the debris to remain in place for investigation.”

Broomfield Police said on Saturday no injuries were reported.
