Donald J. Grill, 86, a former Altoona alumnus, died at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home on Friday.
He was born in Philadelphia, the son of the late Robert and Esther (Donahue) Grill. On July 18, 1959, Donald married Ingrid Neumann in Berlin, Germany.
The survivors are his loving 62-year-old wife; three sons: Donald D. (Carrie) Grill of Altoona, Matthew (Heather) Grill of Mars and Stefan (Kristen) Grill of East Freedom; six granddaughters; and three siblings: David Grill in Florida, Thomas (Helen) Grill in Rydal, and Patricia Phillip in Texas.
He was predeceased by five siblings.
He graduated from Roman Catholic High School in Philadelphia and joined the United States Army. He retired from Conrail after 43 years of service as a crane operator. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Altoona.
Don loved all of Philadelphia’s sports, especially the Phillies. He was an avid reader, loved to watch movies and listen to music. He loved spending time with his loved ones.
There will be no visitation or services.
