Doppler Dave finds healthy lawn after ‘war’ with unwanted guests

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Keeping a healthy and green lawn can seem like an endless battle against the elements and some eternal enemies. A fight that owners can win, however.

Like most residents, I love and work to keep lawns green and healthy, so when I recently found places that were dying even though they had been watered, I was worried. Upon inspection, I found the enemy, larval worms.

It’s the war!

“Damage from larvae can happen overnight and if you are not protected with preventative treatment it can be very destructive to your garden. You might notice a little brown patch one day, oddly sized, and the next thing you know, they can wipe out an entire yard if you don’t act quickly, ”said Jeff Loyless, owner of Weed Wagon Spraying.

He said one way to check for damaged larvae is to peel the grass, it flakes off like a carpet because there is no root system and there you have several larvae.

It is a sign that they are gnawing at the roots.

“They feed on the root system, and that’s what causes damage to the turf,” Loyless said.

To develop a plan, I consulted the experts of the battle.

“The curative, we go out and spray the lawn, usually go ahead and treat the whole lawn, but what that’s going to do is that after they’re watered, these larvae are going to ingest this chemical and they will pass, ”Loyless said.

Strategies were carefully concocted, battle lines drawn, and we went to war with the larvae.

By applying a pesticide which should stop damage when properly applied.

The larvae don’t have to win the war, in fact, I will sleep well tonight knowing I was at the front, I have retaliated, and I am returning to my land.

This is good news !
