Doug Pederson at risk of firing, as conversations with Jeffrey Lurie continue

In response to ESPN’s report that Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie could still make a coach change, PFT asked the Eagles to respond. The Eagles declined to comment.

So that was Plan B. And Plan B was to get unofficial confirmation from sources with knowledge of the situation that the report that Eagles coach Doug Pederson remains in trouble is accurate.

As a source said, conversations between Lurie and Pederson are “ongoing,” and they will meet again to continue the conversation. Lurie wants to be confident in Pederson’s vision for the team going forward.

So, yeah, Lurie could still decide he doesn’t like Pederson’s vision for the franchise. What if Lurie doesn’t like the vision of Pederson enough, the coach who set a 46-39-1 record in five seasons, won a Super Bowl to cap the 2017 season and took the team to three consecutive playoff appearances from 2017 to 2019 could be out.

Pederson would no doubt prefer that whatever decision be made quickly. While it’s not clear whether he would instantly become a candidate for a position elsewhere, there aren’t many Super Bowl-winning coaches from the past decade available to hire.
