In a rehearsal of last year's race in Qatar, Dovizioso won the race against Honda driver Marquez, after leading a group of several riders over much of the distance.

LCR rider Cal Crutchlow secured second place on the podium, beating Suzuki rider Alex Rins in third place, while Valentino Rossi recovered from 14th on the grid to complete the top spot. five.

Yamaha's Rossi teammate Rossales was only seventh, behind Danilo Petrucci's second Ducati factory.

How did the race go?

Following the pattern observed in many recent MotoGP races, a group of 10 riders quickly formed at the front of the pack. Dovizioso made the best escape among the starters to take the lead quickly.

Rookie Fabio Quartararo – who had to leave the stand after stalling on the grid – showed how much Dovizioso moderated his pace. He broke the grid faster than a second faster than the leaders.

Rins, who was 10th on the grid, attacked Dovizioso in the fifth round of 22, but could not keep his head for more than one lap. The pair swapped their heads several times in the first half of the race. .

Dovizioso took the advantage in the 11th round. Marquez replaced Rins as the Ducati rider's main challenger when the Suzuki driver escaped and lost fourth place.

Rins started a new offense to pass Petrucci and Marquez in the second lap on the 15th lap, but on lap 20, he made another mistake by surpassing himself on lap 1.

That left the fight for victory to decide between Dovizioso and Marquez, and Marquez overtook his opponent at the double turn of the 4/5 Turn turn on the penultimate lap to lead.

But Dovizioso was able to take the lead in turn 1 at the start of the last lap and postponed a subsequent attack from the defending champion in turn 10.

Marquez tried one last time to take the lead at the last corner, but failed to block the Dovizioso line and was overtaken by the Italian until the finish line at 0.023s.

Crutchlow, gifted third by lap 20, retained last place on the podium of one tenth ahead of the Spaniard.

Rossi was able to score at the back of the leading group in the early stages and, as the race entered its final stages, the seven-time champion of the Queen class progressed slowly in order.

He sent his team-mate Vinales on lap 16, chose Suzuki driver Joan Mir next time and on lap 20, he finished fifth at Petrucci's expense.

Petrucci took sixth place after opting for soft tires at the front and back (the first five mediums all used), followed by Vinales, who dropped to seventh place in the first round and has never really recovered.

Mir was the best rookie in eighth place, losing only leaders in the final laps, while Takaaki Nakagami (LCR) and Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia) complete the top 10.

Franco Morbidelli, who quickly outpaced Rossi, dropped to 11th in the final standings on the first outing for the new Petronas SRT team, ahead of KTM leader Pol Espargaro.

Jorge Lorenzo scored three points for his first 13 places in his Honda debut, followed by Andrea Iannone (Aprilia) and Johann Zarco (KTM). Quartararo (Petronas SRT) finished just in front of the points in 16th position.

Only three riders failed, and Francesco Bagnaia and Jack Miller of the Pramac Ducati couple both gave up.

Miller's GP19 lost his seat in the second round, but the Australian persisted for a dozen laps before weakening and returning to the pits to retire.

Aprilia, a wildcard, Bradley Smith, was the one and only destroyer of the race.
