Dr Anthony Fauci, White House medical adviser for the novel coronavirus, issued a stern warning to the whole country on Sunday – get yourself vaccinated or a worse variant of the coronavirus could strike our country soon.
Did Fauci say there would be a worse variant?
Fauci said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday that the unvaccinated population of the United States allows the delta variant to spread rapidly across the country. Because of this, the coronavirus now has a ton of time to replicate and mutate, which means a worse variant could be coming soon.
- “So if you allow the virus to circulate freely and don’t try to stop it, sooner or later there is a likelihood that you will get another variant that could, I’m not saying it will, which could be more problematic than the delta, ”Fauci said.
Right now, Fauci said the COVID-19 vaccines are doing a good job of stopping the delta variant. However, that might not be the case if we allow the virus to replicate and mutate a few more times.
- “If you give the virus the chance to keep changing, you lead to a vulnerability that we could get a worse variant,” he said. “And then it will have an impact not only on the unvaccinated; this will have an impact on the vaccinees because this variant could escape the protection of the vaccine. “
- Fauci suggested that “unvaccinated people should think about their own health, that of their families, but also the responsibility of the community to crush this virus before it gets even worse.”
Will there be a worse COVID-19 variant?
That seems to be Dr Fauci’s message right now.
- “If we don’t crush the epidemic to the point of vaccinating the overwhelming proportion of the population, then what will happen is that the virus will continue to smolder from fall to winter, which will give ample chance to get a variant, ”Fauci said last week, according to the McClatchy news site.
The next morning, Fauci told “Good Morning America” host George Stephanopoulos that a new variant would come if the unvaccinated were not vaccinated against COVID-19.
- “People who say, ‘I don’t want to get the vaccine because it’s me and I’m going to worry about myself, I’m not impacting anyone else’, it just isn’t not, “Fauci said, according to ABC News.
