According to reports released on Monday, Saints quarterback Drew Brees would suffer an operation after he tore a ligament to the thumb in Sunday's loss to the Rams and would miss a six-week recovery.
Saints head coach Sean Payton had a conference call later in the day and said nothing had been finalized regarding Brees' plans.
"He got an opinion, he got a second opinion," said Payton.
Payton said he hoped the news is good and that any missing list "if there is one" turns out to be brief. While Payton is playing optimistic ratings on Brees' prospects, he also realizes that the team is "getting ready to discover" if it is able to win without its long-time starting quarterback.
