Drivers blocked by blizzard saved in South Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The Minnesota National Guard and sheriff's deputies are helping people blocked by a blizzard in southern Minnesota.

Homeland security and emergency management in Minnesota said the guard had saved 30 people in southeastern Freeborn County on Saturday night.

The sheriff's deputies saved 20 more people.

Governor Tim Walz declared the state of emergency and ordered the Guard to help motorists stranded in the counties of Freeborn and Steele.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation said Interstate 35 was closed from Owatonna to the Iowa border and Interstate 90 was closed from Dexter in Mower County (West) due to poor weather conditions. driving under which the snow was blowing and sliding.

Most highways in southeastern Minnesota are subject to a no-trip notice.

In North Dakota, a no-trip notice is issued for the south-central state due to blowing snow.
