WarnerMedia's streaming service gave a direct order to the science fiction project "Dune: The Sisterhood".

The series comes from Legendary Television, where Legendary also produces the next film "Dune" by director Denis Villeneuve. Warner Bros. distributes the film.

Set in the world of Frank Herbert's epic series "Dune", "Dune: The Sorority" is told through the eyes of a mysterious order of women known as Bene Gesserit. Endowed with extraordinary abilities through their mastery of body and mind, the Bene Gesserit skillfully criss-cross the feudal politics and intrigue of The Imperium, pursuing their own projects that will ultimately lead them to the enigmatic planet Arrakis, known to its inhabitants as Dune.

Villeneuve will lead the pilot with Jon Spaihts ready to write. Spaihts and Villeneuve also co-wrote the scenario of the restart of the film with Eric Roth. Villeneuve and Spaihts will be executive producers with Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert for the Frank Herbert estate. Kevin J. Anderson will co-produce. The news of the series is part of Legendary's plans to extend the "Dune" franchise to a multitude of platforms.

"The Bene Gesserit have always been fascinating to me," said Villeneuve. "Focusing a series around this powerful women's order seemed not only relevant and inspiring, but also a dynamic setting for the TV series."

This is not the first time that "Dune" is suitable for television. A three-part Syfy miniseries had already been released in 2000, followed by the sequel to "Children of Dune" in 2003. The reboot of the movie "Dune" is scheduled to be released on November 20, 2020. Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård and Dave Bautista are among those attached to the star. The book had already been adapted into a 1984 film written and directed by David Lynch.

Herbert published "Dune" in 1965, the novel continuing to be recognized as one of the most important science fiction novels of all time. Herbert finally wrote five sequels, while his son Brian and Anderson wrote several new entries in the series.

"Dune: The Sisterhood" is the third official order of the WarnerMedia broadcast platform, alongside "Tokyo Vice" with Ansel Elgort and "Love Life" with Anna Kendrick and producer Paul Feig. As Variety In exclusive, last week, Elizabeth Banks is currently developing a serial version of the "Over My Dead Body" podcast, while an animated series "Gremlins" is also in preparation.
