Eight months have passed since the Eagles took the field for a significant game, a narrow loss to the New Orleans Saints in the playoffs.
Last season, there were many injuries throughout the training. It was Carson Wentz's return season after a knee injury, but he was not the same at times and he injured his back and missed the playoffs again.
In 2019, optimism is back.
The season starts on Sunday at 13h. against the Washington Redskins at Lincoln Financial Field, a season where most expect to end with another shot at the Super Bowl.
Will the Eagles get there?
Here are my official match-for-match predictions for the 2019 season, as well as a general prognosis of how the Eagles playoff push will unfold.
Bonus: YOU can vote for each game and how many games you think the Eagles will win.
Read, vote and enjoy …
WEEK 1: vs Washington Redskins
When: Sunday, September 8th
Where: Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia)
Analysis: The Redskins are bad, the Eagles are talented enough to be a Super Bowl candidate, Case Keenum is Washington's quarterback, Trent Williams is not playing and it's in Philadelphia. If Carson Wentz wanted to put himself in the place of the Philadelphia fan base, the Eagles would lose that opening game. It would be shocking if they did it. The lackeys "Wentz should have played in the pre-season" will be eliminated if the Eagles lose this game.
Prediction: WIN, by several touchdowns. Let's catch a DeSean Jackson bomb in the first part.
Record: 1-0
WEEK 2: Atlanta Falcons
When: Sunday, September 15th
Where: Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta)
Analysis: It will not be an easy game, especially on the road and in prime time. The Falcons are a playoff team, but the Eagles tend to have their numbers. The Eagles will do what they did by letting Julio Jones reap 150 yards and get everyone. They may discover that it does not work as well on the road as in Philadelphia against the Falcons.
Prediction: LOSE, in a close
Record: 1-1
WEEK 3: vs. Detroit Lions
When: Sunday, September 22
Where: Linc
Analysis: Lions are bad. Doug Pederson will be pleased to score against Matt Patricia. For the good old days.
Prediction: Win, in an eruption
Record: 2-1
WEEK 4: At Green Bay Packers
When: Thursday, September 26th
Where: Lambeau Field (Green Bay)
Analysis: Going to Green Bay for a short week for a Thursday night game is not ideal, although it takes place in September and is much better than in December. As a journalist covering these games, I would like to thank the NFL for not sticking (or the Eagles, I guess) in the frozen tundra of December. Regarding the game, the Packers have one of the most intriguing lineups in the NFC, and are tough despite the fact that Aaron Rodgers is in good health.
Prediction: loss
Record: 2-2
WEEK 5: vs. New York Jets
When: Sunday, October 6th
Where: Linc
Analysis: The Joe Douglas Bowl. New York should be much more competitive than last season, especially now that Sam Darnold has a year to his credit, he stays a few steps below the Eagles to rebuild and will have hard times in Philadelphia, especially if they come out of 'a loss.
Prediction: Win, not close
Record: 3-2
WEEK 6: At the Minnesota Vikings
When: Sunday, October 13th
Where: U.S. Bank Stadium (Minneapolis)
Analysis: The Eagles return to the Super Bowl LII website. Nick Foles is no longer there, but the comparisons with Carson Wentz will become blazing if he does not succeed in this area as he did two years ago. Minnesota should be back in contention for the playoffs and have the weapons that catch the passes to give the Eagles 'second division a tough time, but the Vikings will have just as much trouble with the Eagles' weapons.
Prediction: Win, close one
Record: 4-2
WEEK 7: At the Dallas Cowboys
When: Sunday, October 20th
Where: AT & T Stadium (Arlington)
Analysis: This is the site of one of the most difficult losses of the Eagles last year. This NFC East race will belong to these teams and both will compete for NFC supremacy. Whatever happens here, it will add another chapter to what will likely become a long-standing rivalry between Dak Prescott and Carson Wentz. The Eagles' QB gets the better of him this time.
Prediction: Win
Record: 5-2
WEEK 8: at Buffalo Bills
When: Sunday, October 27
Where: New Era Field (Buffalo)
Analysis: The difficulty of this game has less to do with the opponent than with the circumstances. The Eagles will participate in two tight road games when they travel to Buffalo for their third away game away. Buffalo will not be good, but they could catch the Eagles sleeping.
Prediction: Loss
Record: 5-3
WEEK 9: Chicago Bears
When: Sunday, November 3rd
Where: Linc
Analysis: A rematch of last season's playoff game, but no Nick Foles, no Treyvon Hester and, shocking, no Cody Parkey. The Bears did not do much during the off season, but should still be in the playoffs. Your mileage may be very high, but I'm not sure Mitchell Trubisky is the quarterback to lead this team to victory in a difficult environment.
Prediction: Win
Record: 6-3
***
WEEK 10: BYE
***
WEEK 11: vs patriots of New England
When: Sunday, November 17th
Where: Linc
Analysis: revenge of the Super Bowl! The NFL was kind enough to give the Eagles games against the three opponents of last year's playoff race. As appropriate, it is also correct. Carson Wentz will have his first stab at Tom Brady … and he will lose.
Prediction: loss
Record: 6-4
WEEK 12: Seattle Seahawks vs.
When: Sunday, November 24
Where: Linc
Analysis: This may be the swing that determines whether the Eagles escape with the NFC or compete for a division title in the stretch. The last five games after this turnaround in favor of the Eagles, but can they finally stop Russell Wilson at home? If they lose, it will be a series of three defeats, which will not really appeal to locals.
Prediction: Win
Record: 7-4
WEEK 13: at the dolphins of miami
When: Sunday, December 1st
Where: Hard Rock Stadium (Miami)
Analysis: The dolphins are directly in the tank. If everything goes as planned, the second half will be filled with opportunities for substitutes and young players to register their stats in a blaze of meaning. Or, for Carson Wentz to complete his figures for a possible MVP campaign. How does it sound 400 yards and four touchdowns?
Prediction: Win
Record: 8-4
WEEK 14: vs. New York Giants
When: Monday, December 9th
Where: Linc
Analysis: Daniel Jones will start, which means that the Eagles may have seen the last Eli Manning in Giants uniform. This does not mean that the Giants will be really better, however, they will just be different.
Prediction: Win
Record: 9-4
WEEK 15: at Washington Redskins
When: Sunday, December 15th
Where: FedEx Field (Landover, Md.)
Analysis: Fourteen weeks after their first game, the Redskins are still as bad, although at least Dwayne Haskins is currently playing. He will have his moguls as a rookie and one of them will be a poor performance against the Eagles. This marks four wins per line.
Prediction: Win
Record: 10-4
WEEK 16: Dallas Cowboys vs
When: Sunday, December 22
Where: Linc
Analysis: In the end, this game could be the one that will decide if the Eagles will win directly the NFC or fight with the Cowboys for the NFC East until the end. I have the Cowboys at 9-5 at this point of the season. A win and the 17th week will be decisive in the division race. Dallas wins three straight wins this week and continues to feel bad after.
Prediction: Loss
Record: 10-5
WEEK 17: At the Giants of New York
When: Sunday, December 29
Where: MetLife Stadium (East Rutherford)
Analysis: The Eagles, who are fighting Dallas for the division, can not rest their starters, but they should not have too many problems with Jones the second time. A win, and they win the division title and position themselves well for the playoffs. If Carson Wentz still plays at this time of year, it is possible, if not probable, that the Eagles win somewhere in the 10-12 range.
Prediction: Win
***
Final record: 11-5, NFC East Champions
Series prediction: Number 3, lost to New Orleans Saints at NFC championship
super bowl: The saints on the leaders
