10. Jalen Hurts: Hurts scored 19.3, 37.8, 18.6 and 16.3 points in his four starts last season after Philadelphia’s season was a losing cause. Hurts was last in the league for completion rate (52%), but also last for expected completion rate (55.5%), according to NFL Next Gen Stats. If the Eagles commit to Hurts for a season, he joins the top group aided by rushed production with the advantage of crashing a ceiling if he improves from a passing position.

This class of receivers is deep and talented. It’s amazing that year after year we attend great classes. Should we not be missing out on exceptional prospects? The passing game has exploded in the world of football and that means there are more talented receivers than ever before. This fact makes it especially frustrating that the Eagles can’t seem to build a good receiving body. I’m not sure if it’s more writing, coaching, or drawing / QB play. The bottom line is that the Eagles need to change that. You can’t win in the NFL today without good receivers. I don’t think the Eagles need to take a wide receiver at 6, but they need to add a talented player to the mix. It could be a free agent trade or addition. Or the Eagles could pass a mid-round pick. They need to add more talent. They need competition. The current group of receivers didn’t deserve the right to count on anything except a chance.

As a team, the Eagles had the lowest completion percentage (55.9) and were tied for the least yards per attempt (6.2) last season. Specifically, receivers captured just 56.7% of passes thrown, which was the second lowest rate for all teams. Philly will need to bring in the right mix of receivers to complete whoever takes over at QB1 (be it Jalen Hurts or someone else) after the Carson Wentz trade, and to potentially make up for the loss of a pass- really key catcher (tight Zach Ertz, who is a cut candidate). In doing so, the Eagles might have to shell out – this is a team my model sees in danger of overpaying, as they have needs where the projected available free agents are expected to come at a steep price. They hold the sixth pick overall, but it’s probably not high enough to capitalize on a strong comeback from needy quarterback teams.
