SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – It is unwise to make a speech to Reece Roussel.

The small league striker from Eastbank played Thursday night's game at the Little League World Series as the tournament's best hitter. And he showed why.

Roussel was four-on-four with three doubles and one grand slam to help the River Ridge small league team beat Virginia 10-0 and qualify for the US championship game.

Roussel doubled in his first match and connected with a similar shot to start the third inning. He advanced on an error in the third when Connor Perrot led an unsteady ground-stop ball that was badly played and allowed Roussel to reach third place. He did not stay there long when Gavin Berry hit the ball to get Roussel home.

The race meant that Virginia was late for the second game in a row after posting two homers back-to-back to open the tournament.

In the fourth inning, Roussel left little doubt about the final result by raising the first shot of his attack over the left-field barrier for a grand slam.

The shot gave Eastbank a 5-0 advantage over Virginia, which represented the Southeast region.

The offense continued to produce for Eastbank, Ryder Planchard later adding a single RBI. Gavin Berry opened the ball to take it in the left field for another RBI double and Eastbank managed to extend his league to seven points in the fourth inning by beating in order.

Roussel scored his third double in the fifth and Eastbank scored two more points to force the 10-point rule and qualify for the US championship.

The offensive blast may have overshadowed Marshall Louque's terrible effort on the mound, which eliminated five of the first six batters.

Louque was named coach the day before the match and did not disappoint, facing a single hitter above the minimum in three sets.

He hit Liam Thyen in the second inning, but that would be the only baseball player Virginia would get like Louque in the first three innings.

Eastbank manager Scott Frazier said after the team's victory on Wednesday that he wanted his backup replacements to replace the team. Alton Shorts and Jeffrey Curtis responded to the call Thursday by opening the fourth inning with singles.

Eastbank qualifies for the American final of the Little League World Series where it will face Hawaii on Saturday. The two teams clashed to open the series, Hawaii winning 5-2. If Eastbank is able to take his revenge, the winner of Japan and Curacao will be qualified Sunday night.
