Interview with the candidate EG News – Listen to a live interview with school committee candidate Nicole Bucka at 5:30 p.m. on EG’s Facebook page or Youtube channel. If unable to attend, the recording can be viewed at your convenience. Unfortunately, candidate Peter Carney declined to participate.

Mindfulness meditation – Sessions offer a westernized, secular version of Vipassana, also known as insightful, open-heart, and analytical meditation. Sessions often include guided breathing meditation, moving meditation, benevolence meditation, and musical meditation. The meditation exercises are guided and no experience is necessary. EGHPS presents Sara Corbin and Weird Island – In a virtual program sponsored by the East Greenwich Historic Preservation Society, Sara Corbin will share bizarre stories from Rhode Island history, such as Roger Williams and the man-eating tree, or the day it rained fish in Olneyville as well as other little known stories about our particular state. Sara started a weekly podcast, Weird Island, while working from her home in Pawtucket during the pandemic. She is a brand manager for Transformer toys at Hasbro and an amateur historian / storyteller. She will describe why she started this project, how she finds and researches her quirky stories, and the technological intricacies of creating a podcast in her living room. Tuesday September 21

“Taste of EG” walk – Postponed from last Thursday, this last walk of the summer season features local restaurants offering samples of their cuisine. And, as always, there will be other providers and live music offerings. 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Main Street between First Avenue and Division Street.

School committee meeting – The panel meets at Cole Middle School at 7 p.m. On the agenda, the panel will receive a construction update as well as a report from Facilities Manager Bob Wilmarth on the planning and visualization work. Find the complete agenda HERE.

Wednesday September 22

EG News at Finn’s Harborside! Join us for light appetizers and cocktails on the terrace of Finn’s on Water Street. The Sliding Capos will be on hand to provide their fabulous music. This fundraiser for EG News is free, but donations are welcome – come support the local news! 5 p.m. to 7:38 p.m. Water Street.

Planning board meeting – The panel organizes a public workshop and a discussion on the city’s municipal sanitation plan. This session complies with the state’s requirements for public participation when updating the city map. City officials will share details of the current collection system and processing plant and begin to identify alternatives for the future. The meeting takes place in the council chamber at the town hall at 7 p.m. Find the agenda HERE.

Savor East Greenwich – Sample some of the best food East Greenwich restaurants have to offer at the East Greenwich Chamber of Commerce “Savor East Greenwich” at EG Yacht Club. From 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets and more information are available HERE.

Goddard Park Farmer’s Market – The market, at the southern end of the park, is open from Friday to October from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Learn more about RI’s farmers markets HERE.

EG Restaurant Week – EG Restaurant Week is back and ends on October 3rd (yes, over a week!). EG Chamber of Commerce is finalizing the participants but you can find out more HERE.

Monday September 27

EG Library CLOSED until October 1stThe Free East Greenwich Library will be closed Monday September 27 through Friday October 1 for refurbishment. The library will receive a much needed new carpet. In order to line the main level, we must close to the public. The lower level will be carpeted in the following weeks, with individual areas being closed as the flooring is installed. When we close, no late payment fine will be charged. Additionally, any reserved or “pending” items that arrive on September 27 and October 1 will be held longer, so customers have enough time to collect them.

School committee – The panel meets on the first and third Tuesday of the month. The agenda will be available closer to the date. 7 p.m. at Cole Middle School and via Zoom.

East Greenwich Art Club – The EG Art Club is back this fall, with its first reunion from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 30 Peirce Street. Use the entrance from rue Montrose. We encourage anyone interested in art to join us for a “friendly meet and greet” to learn more about the club and our upcoming artist demonstrations and local exhibition possibilities. Making hay II – Building a sense of community is an important part of our mental health. What better way to do this than to engage with friends, listen to music, and learn about the work being done to reduce stress.
