EAST LIVERPOOL – A national movement affiliated with the Lasagna Love nonprofit has found its place in Columbiana County.

Lasagna Love describes itself as a grassroots movement made up of 20,000 volunteers in 50 states.

Courtney Richards-Beatty discovered Lasagna Love while parading on YouTube almost a month ago. Beatty is now making lasagna as the Regional Lasagna Love Manager for Columbiana County.

” This is a good thing. I’m so excited to be able to do it for people because we need it ”, said Beatty.

Lasagna Love has a simple mission. Feed families, spread kindness, and strengthen communities.

Rhiannon Menn started Lasagna Love during the pandemic as a way to reach out to struggling neighbors. Menn didn’t define what their struggles were to be. Menn met neighbors wherever they were, whether those struggles were emotional, financial, or physical.

“Anyone can request a meal” Beatty explained. “They are just neighbors helping neighbors.”

Beatty was surprised that Lasagna Love was available in Columbiana County. When Beatty signed up to be a chef, she saw people wait months for a meal.

“Well, people have to talk about it. I need to get the word out. said Beatty.

Realizing the perks she had as a married mom with her own small business inspired Beatty to take action.

“My kids are helping me make them, all of them, and they’re thrilled. I teach them. This is what we do if we are able to do it ”, said Beatty.

Beatty hopes to build relationships by collaborating with local school districts using home economics classes as a way to learn community outreach skills.

She teaches people about this program because even people under the age of 18 can apply to become chefs as long as they have their parents’ permission, Beatty said.

According to Beatty, there are only three chefs in the area.

“There are a lot of people who need help getting food and getting it, but if we don’t have enough chefs then people wait months and months and months.” Beatty said.

Beatty intends to create a network of chefs so people in need of a meal can get help within two weeks.

Those interested in hosting and preparing meals can find registration information at lasagnalove.org.

Beatty invites people to contact her with questions at [email protected].

“I want people to know this is the real deal. It’s so easy and simple ”, said Beatty.
