In the sweetest news today, Soulsborne’s long-awaited entry Elden Ring got its own pre-order page on Steam, and it originally featured some pretty questionable tags. As pointed out by Niko Partners analyst and industry observer Daniel Ahmad |, Elden Ring’s Steam page had the tags “dating sim” and “cute”. For those who don’t know, Steam Tags are short descriptors that give potential players an idea of the game they’re watching.
We get totally “cute”, but it’s hard to imagine how “dating mock” applies to Elden Ring, even in the broadest strokes. Those with more speculative minds may be eager to guess that Elden Ring will feature some sort of Fire Emblem series-like camaraderie mechanic, but that’s unlikely.
The most likely explanation is that the new Steam page is bombarded with tags by people who know that at its core, Soulsborne games are about finding someone special, waiting for you out there in the withered garbage of ‘a post-apocalyptic dark fantasy world. . You know, your soul mate.
As of this writing, the “dating sim” and “cute” user tags no longer appear on the Elden Ring Steam page. Instead, we have “relaxing”, “walking simulator” and “anime”. Now, this looks a lot more like what you would expect from a Soulsborne game.
