The 40th district includes 15 communities in Bergen, Essex, Morris and Passaic counties: Allendale, Cedar Grove, Franklin Lakes, Ho-Ho-Kus, Little Falls, Midland Park, Pequannock, Pompton Lakes, Ridgewood, Riverdale, Totowa, Waldwick , Wayne, Woodland Park and Wyckoff.
Voter registration is 30% Democrat and 32% Republican, with most of the other unaffiliated district voters. Republicans represent this neighborhood.
Incumbent His. Kristin corrado, a lawyer from Totowa, faces a challenge from the Democrat Michel sedon, freelance journalist and Deputy Mayor of Ridgewood.
In the race for the Assembly, the Republican deputies Kevin J. Rooney, managing partner of a real estate management and development company, and Christopher P. DePhillips, vice president of a health-related compliance firm, is seeking re-election. The two live in Wyckoff. Their Democratic opponents are Genevieve Allard from Ridgewood and Nicole mcnamara of Waldwick for the Assembly.
