Electric Silverado to debut at CES with large glass roof

It is well known that electric vehicles need large glass roofs. It’s an integral part of the design of electric vehicles, and they just don’t work well without them. The Mustang Mach-E has one! Good, bad example. The Tesla Model Y has one! Wait, not that one either. The next electric Silverado will have one! Surely, after GM’s impressive track record with electric vehicles, it can only end well.

Chevrolet first presented the Electric Silverado at CES in 2021, and the truck will make its full debut a year later at the same event. Although last year’s show didn’t mention the name of a Silverado EV, a classy photo of upcoming electrified GM vehicles had a pickup with a bow tie hidden in the back row.

Details on the upcoming truck are scarce. Expected over 400 miles of range, four-wheel steering, and the same Ultium platform which is shared among all of General Motors’ upcoming electric vehicles. And, yes, the Big Glass Roof is now confirmed as an upcoming feature.

Chevrolet likely sees the roof as a way to compete with the F-150 Lightning and its meager sunroof the size of a normal vehicle. The Silverado’s transparent cocoon might not open to let in fresh air, but it’s bigger – which is always better, right?

Time will tell which approach will prevail. A large, fixed glass panel will certainly let in light, but it also means letting heat into the cabin. With the climate control being a serious leak On a range of electric vehicles, those looking to get the most out of their electrified truck can opt for the Lightning’s smaller movable sunroof.
