Elmo awarded $ 500,000 for the renovation of a water tower

In July, the town of Elmo received a grant of $ 400,000 through the Missouri Department of Economic Development’s Community Development Block Grant program and a grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources of $ 100,000.

The town’s water tower was originally built in 1914. In 1964, the water tower was purchased by a community from the Wisconsin city council. The tower was deconstructed, transported by train and truck before being rebuilt at its current location as part of the city’s first water system. This project aims to rehabilitate and repair the Elmo water tower to reduce costly repairs. Interior and exterior improvements are expected to reduce the health and safety risks that city residents currently face. City engineer Snyder & Associates prepared a preliminary engineering report to use in applying for funding to help the city make necessary repairs to the water tower.

Now that the project is funded, engineers will begin the design phase of the tower and expect repairs to begin next spring. City management has hired the Northwestern Missouri Regional Council of Governments as the grants administrator.
